FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
‘HOP ON OVER’ TO THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY FAIR TUESDAY, JULY 29th- SUNDAY, AUGUST 3rd!
Sponsors, Donations, Volunteers and General Community Awareness Needed!
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- July 18, 2008- The 27th Annual Albemarle County Fair will be held in North Garden, VA from Tuesday, July 29th- Sunday, August, 3rd. Bundoran Farm has generously agreed to lease their property as the host location again this year. The Fair schedule features agriculture, livestock, craft exhibits, amusement rides, carnival games, live music and so much more. New events this year include The National Lawnmower Races & The Frisbee Dogs Show. In past years, the average attendance has been 10,000 community residents. Lorena Kush, spokesperson for the fair, says “our goal is to make the community & visitors aware of the event so that we are able to far exceed that attendance this year.
”
In addition to community awareness, the fair board is still searching for sponsors, donations and volunteers from local businesses & community members. “Many people are unaware that the fair is not supported by county funds. It involves a year of planning by about 15 unpaid board members and the work of hundreds of volunteers in the weeks before, during and after the fair” says Kush. The average cost to produce the fair is a minimum of $165,000 and the only revenue sources that cover those expenses are ticket sales, sponsorships & donations.
The Fair Board is also proud to announce Special Needs Day on Wednesday, July 30th from 10am-12pm. Families who have children with special needs are offered complimentary access to several rides, the petting zoo, crafts and ice cream. “We are so happy to be able to offer this day again in 2008. The Fair is an event for the entire community and it is important that it is accessible to everyone, especially our children.
”
Albemarle County Fair, Inc., a non-profit, regionally based corporation, has as its primary mission to annually sponsor the Albemarle County Fair. The Fair is primarily focused on serving the Charlottesville-Albemarle area by promoting the involvement of the area’s public and visitors in its programming.
