PDF: C-Ville Abode Feature - Little Houses in the Big Woods
The April 2010 issue of C-ville Abobe , C-ville Magazine' s publication focusing on all essentials of Homes, Gardening and Neighborhoods in the Charlottesville, VA area features some of houses at Bundoran Farm that exemplify several of the sustainable and sensible planning, design and environmental principles being applied throughout the property.
While the article goes into a good bit of depth about the individual houses and what attracted the owners to Bundoran Farm, the following paragraph from the article does a excellent job of encapsulating the overall philosophy of this legacy landscape where the character and use of the land is preserved, ongoing environmental stewardship is fostered and families can a live in a protected and authentic agrarian environment.
"While the prominence of environmental values is the most notable difference between Bundoran and traditional housing developments, you don’t have to be an eco-enthusiast to understand the place’s appeal. Although the farm spans 2,300 acres and is designed to accommodate 108 lots, it could easily be mistaken for a single residence. Entrances to different sections of the farm are unobtrusive, seamlessly blending into the surrounding woods and giving way to narrow roads that curve up hills and over wooden bridges. Instead of a series of pushy pillared mansions competing for attention, houses seem content to stay quietly in the background, leaving the expansive horizons intact"
